Sunday praise is where offer up my thanks every Sunday for the many blessings in my life as I recover from trauma.
Giving thanks for the blessings in our lives is a hallmark of most religions, including my Christian faith. When we offer a simple prayer of thanks to our Higher Power, we feel better. Studies show that gratitude can reduce stress and anxiety. In other words, it can improve mental health. That is good news for those of us who are childhood trauma survivors. While most practices take effort, giving thanks is easy. We can think, speak, write, and sing our gratitude.
Today, I am thankful for what helps rewire my brain:
Tapping (emotional freedom technique)
Meditation
Journaling
Prayer
Medication
Deep breathing
My tools help me move from a survivor to one who thrives. They give me hope when I despair of ever leaving clinical depression behind. I tap and deep breathe when I feel triggered. I meditate daily and know my mind better. Journaling how I feel keeps me from numbing my emotions, a bad habit I picked up as a child. I take up my tools daily and whisper a prayer of thanks that I have them.
